When the USS Newark, carrier of an experimental military cargo, is recovered after two months lost at sea, the government sends in a salvage team to regain the cargo. Lead by Dr. Carly Ryan, head of the original project, the team finds most of the original crew dead as well as low-level radiation leaking from the ship's reactor.
