Indrajeet (Sanjeev Kumar) takes shelter at Rama's (Sharmila Tagore) house during a rainy day. Their chance encounter slowly blossoms into romance, but Rama's stepmother does not approve of the relationship. She arranges her marriage with an old drunkard. Rama asks Indrajeet to meet her urgently, but Indrajeet's father falls terribly ill and he has to rush home. Meanwhile, Rama is married off to the old man, and is trapped in an abusive marriage. When Indrajeet meets her again he is devastated to see what has become of her life - she is a call girl. Will Indrajeet help Rama or is it already too late?
