Amarnath (Dilip Kumar), a noted criminal lawyer is in love with a scholarly activist Anju (Madhubala) and is about to be married to her. One stormy night, his milkmaid Sonia (Nimmi) comes to his house trying to escape an infatuated criminal. Amar's lust takes over him and he ends up assaulting her. Sonia seals her mouth about the crime until an accident reveals that she's carrying a child. Anju protects Sonia and fights for her. Despite persuading her endlessly to reveal the name of the offender, Sonia remains silent. Meanwhile, Amar struggles with demons of guilt. Will the truth ever come out? Does Amarnath find the strength to own up?
