Naukri' is the story of Ratan (Kishore Kumar) who dreams of a comfortable life for his poor family and leaves his village to find employment in Kolkata. In the city, he stays in a tiny apartment shared by three other unemployed youths and falls in love with his neighbour, Seema (Sheila Ramani). Seema's father, however, refuses to wed his daughter to a jobless man. After many efforts, Ratan finally manages to find a job in Mumbai. He sends his appointment letter to Seema, but her father burns it without opening it. Ratan doesn't remember the name of the company and doesn't have any way to prove that he's employed. In that sorry state, he still goes to Mumbai and encounters more troubles on the way. Will Ratan ever settle with a good job and the girl of his dreams?
