Heera (Sunil Dutt) lives in a small town with his parents. He meets a moneylender's daughter, Asha (Asha Parekh) and falls in love. They hope to get married soon, but suddenly Heera is charged with the murder of a young girl in the village. He is subsequently held guilty and sentenced to death. Heera then escapes from prison, goes to the infamous ravines of Chambal and becomes a bandit, who is cold-hearted, ruthless and doesn't hesitate to kill anyone. Heera now makes it his mission to try and level scores with the person who destroyed his life.
