Seth Daulatram (Murad) resents the fact that his housemaid’s son is in love with his daughter Mala (Nargis). He uses the excuse of her minor injury from horseback riding to dismiss the two of them. While returning to their hometown, the housemaid dies and her son, Shamu (Dilip Kumar) loses his eyesight in a sandstorm. Pitying the boy’s condition, a humble villager takes him to his house, where he grows up with the villager’s daughter, Champa (Nimmi). After the villager dies, he takes care of the rest of the family by singing and, moved by his voice, a kind-hearted eye specialist offers to help him restore his sight. What Shamu doesn’t know is that the doctor is in fact the fiancé of Mala, the girl he’s unable to forget.
