A U.K. trained doctor, Dr. Gautamdas (Rajendra Kumar) volunteers to go to Japan to help deal with the aftermath of the atomic bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. His father is unhappy with his decision, but Dr. Gautamdas convinces him of the nobility of the act. Once in Japan, he rescues a group of fishermen exposed to the radiations and manages to save countless lives. He also meets a beautiful Japanese girl Meloda (Saira Banu), who having studied in India, is fluent in Hindi. The storyline takes us through the agony of the innocent victims and the love story that blossoms like a silver lining amid devastation.
